Hey Jojo,

Tonight the superintendent said that me being the way I am is a “perverted lifestyle.” I asked Mom in the car what “perverted” meant. She said it was a word grown-ups use for things they think are naughty or nasty in a particular grown-up way. That’s terrible! There’s nothing naughty or nasty about me. I am the way I am, and I always have been, and it’s totally fine and normal. At least it would be if people like him would stop saying awful things about me, when they don’t even know what they’re talking about. And saying Mom was making me do it, too! When I was the one who had to make her do it, so that I could live my life and be a real person in the world.

Jojo, I have to tell you, the superintendent scared me a little. He was big and loud, and his face and voice were so hard, and he seemed like a person who never listens to anyone but himself. I don’t know how to fight someone like that. I don’t know how to even say anything that he can hear at all. Yuck. I had to take a hot shower when I got home. I felt like someone had thrown slimy, sticky mud on me.

At least we got to meet Uncle Mac, who I like a lot. He said we’ll probably see him again, unless we decide to stop fighting, but how can we do that now? We have to keep fighting. And after the meeting a reporter asked Mom and me some questions, so maybe something will happen from that.

I’m beginning to think Will is right, that I won’t be back on the cheer team before the Basswood game. That still makes me sad, but I haven’t been thinking about it as much, because I’m getting caught up in this new thing, this fight. Like, I’m thinking I might have to make another video. I’m so mad still about how mean and wrong the superintendent was. I hope I can sleep tonight.

God bless Mom and Will and Uncle Mac. And please, God, help Superintendent Fellows to make better choices. He needs all the help he can get.
